drawing: Self Portrait in (9in^2) 's

Self Portrait in (9in^2)'s.  22"x30".  Graphite on paper.  2005

Second semester drawing class.
We had to do a rather large self-portrait one 3"x3" square at a time; we were supposed to keep the rest of the drawing covered while we worked on each square.  The result is a slightly disjointed drawing.  I was flattered when my professor asked to keep my drawing.  I should have let him... I think its been a bit ruined now after years of living in a stack of drawings (I really should have been better about storing my art...  Oh well).

Drawing: self portrait, sleeping

Self portrait: sleeping.  Graphite on paper.  8.5" x 11".  2005

This was for an intermediate drawing class.  I think it was the first project we had to do--the professor wanted to see our initial skill-level, I think.  Something that I think is kind-off unique about me is that I always fall asleep as a passenger in cars, trains, planes, etc.  My husband and I joke that I have "transportation narcolepsy".  Even if I've gotten good sleep the night before and even if I really want to stay awake, I almost always fall asleep in cars, trains, planes, etc.  I also have trouble falling asleep during lectures and talks--about 25-30 minutes in, my body decides its time to sleep (my theory is that because my body isn't actively moving around and doing things, my brain tells it to shut down).  so embarrassing.  and I can only imagine the number of professors I've offended.  whoops!
