Hello and welcome!
My name is Laura. And I make art.... and stuff.
I've loved art and making stuff as far back as I can remember. One of my earliest (clear) art-related memories is from preschool: there were dinosaur coloring pages laid out on a long table. I decided I wanted all of them for myself (they were mine!), and I tattled on some kid when he tried to sit at a seat and color on my dinosaur! The teacher even yelled at the kid. ha! Really, I should have been the one yelled at for not sharing...I still feel kind of bad about how that worked out...
After preschool, I managed to impress my art teachers year after year. In high school, I guess I was sort of known for my artsi-ness. And the art room became my refuge that one fateful semester when all my friends had 5th hour lunch, and I was the only one who had 6th.
In college, all the art classes were reserved for Art majors. But I wanted to major in something science-y as a career path. So, naturally I decided I had to double-major in Biology and Art, and I ended up being in school for five years because of it. (It's okay; being a "super senior" was trendy at the time. It might possibly still be?).
There have been many changes throughout my life (boys, pets, living situations, jobs, career paths...). But one thing has stayed with me: my desire to make stuff. I'm just not me unless I'm working on at least ten projects at once. (And I'd like to point out that I do not do art for a living, so I'm one busy gal!)
So what has art (and makin' stuff) got to do with this blog?
This blog is meant to be a portfolio, of sorts, of my art and stuff that maybe isn't so artsy but is still something I made (like pie. yum :-9 ). My hope is that you respond somehow. Maybe you'll see something you think is cool. Maybe you'll see something that makes you laugh. Or cringe. Or drool (like pie!). Or maybe you'll see something that inspires you. Or something that you want (if that's the case, lemme know. We'll talk). Or maybe you'll just stare blankly and think to yourself "wtf? I so don't get this piece". Whatever your response, I hope you at least enjoy my blog and (some of?) the stuff you see on it!
